Medicine has been around for thousands of years, aiding those in need of fast relief from symptoms of sickness. Medicine can come in all types of forms, such as liquid, injection, pills, or tablets. Although medicine provides us with quick cures, it is not always natural and has its own set of side effects. Thankfully, over the years, people have discovered natural remedies to cure ordinary, everyday illnesses, like the common cold. There are three stages of the common cold: a sore throat, a runny nose, and a never ending cough. Here are some ways to naturally heal yourself from the common cold.
- Stage 1: The Sore Throat
To naturally cure your sore throat, try gargling with some salt water. Just warm up water (not to hot), add salt, mix until the salt is completely dissolved, gargle it in your throat for 30 seconds, and then spit it out. The salt helps kill bacteria, while also providing temporary relief. Do that about four times a day and your sore throat will be gone before you know it. And if you have a sensitive gag reflex, then try drinking tea or warm lemon water mixed with honey.
- Stage 2: The Runny Nose
To naturally cure your runny nose, take a steamy shower or apply hot or cold packs around your congested sinuses. Even sleeping with an extra pillow to prop you up will help your sinuses return back to normal. Many make the mistake of sniffling mucus back into their head, but what you want to do is blow your nose immediately. The best way to blow your nose is to press a finger over one nostril, while you blow gently to clear the other. You could even rise with a salt water solution, which helps break nasal congestion and helps remove bad bacteria. Also, eating spicy foods, which helps your body loosen the mucus that is clogging your body, allows your sinuses to open, in turn making you breathe better.
- Stage 3: The Cough
To naturally cure your cough, drink a lot of hot liquids and try to stay away from dairy, as that can build up mucus in your throat. Hot liquids prevent dehydration, and soothe the inflamed membranes that line your nose and throat. The cough will eventually go away on its own, but in the meantime, remember to drink a lot of water and stay hydrated.
These are all natural, non painful methods to curing the common cold. To add on top of everything, make sure that you get plenty of rest and drink lots of water. Staying hydrated and allowing your body the time to fight the sickness are the two most important factors to healing. Also, eating healthy, infection fighting foods are extremely important. Some foods that are helpful to eat while battling a cold are bananas, bell peppers, blueberries, carrots, chilli peppers, cranberries, and surprisingly onions. So, the next time you come upon receiving this wonderful sickness, follow these natural remedies and you will be healthy and feeling good in no time.
